Secretary-General of the Muslim World League Sheikh Dr. Mohammad bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa and Maldives Minister of Defense and National Security, Mariya Didi have discussed the issue of violent extremism leading to terrorism.
This was done during the courtesy call paid on the Maldivian minister by the MWL SG on Tuesday, as part of his ongoing visit upon the invitation of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
The meeting was held at the ministry premises and saw Minister Mariya expressing gratitude to the MWL SG for their outstanding contributions to Islamic unity, global peace and harmony on the front of clarifying the truth about Islam and its moderate principles, promoting ties of sisterhood among Islamic nations as well as enhancing global efforts to eradicate terrorism and violent extremism.
In this regard, the pair discussed several issues including the issue of violent extremism leading to terrorism.
With this being said, the MWL SG praised the Maldivian president’s ‘Zero Tolerance Policy on Terrorism and Violent Extremism’ as well as the incumbent administration’s approach to make it a national effort through its whole-of-government and whole-of-society policy.
Ambassador of Maldives to Saudi Arabia Mohamed Khaleel, Director General of the National Counter Terrorism Center Brigadier General (Retired) Zakariyya Mansoor, Military Secretary Brigadier General Abdul Matheen Ahmed, Maldives National Defense Force (MNDF) Department of International Defense Cooperation’s Principal Director LTC Ahmed Shareef and National Counter-Terrorism Center’s Director LTC Ibrahim Naeem joined the meeting.
